And the hits just keep on coming. Virginia Tech-owned WVTF Public Radio/RADIO IQ, which yesterday won three Edward R. Murrow Awards, has received a 2010 Sigma Delta Chi Award for excellence in journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).Sandy Hausman, reporter/producer, and News Editor Connie Stevens received a Feature Reporting (101+ Market) award for their piece, “Kudzu: Friend, Foe -- or Food?”
This year, winners were chosen from over 1,400 entries in categories covering print, radio, television, and online. The awards recognize outstanding work published or broadcast in 2010.
Dating back to 1932, the awards originally honored six individuals for contributions to journalism. The current program began in 1939, when the society granted the first Distinguished Service Awards. The honors later became the Sigma Delta Chi Awards.
What great news, and what a treasure Sandy Hausman is! The kudzu-fest from the news story took place at my house, and our son, Jackson Landers, was the invasive-species hunter at the center of the story. The kudzu quiche, kudzu dolmas, and kudzu pesto were very tasty!
